Kansas has historically been known for having great public schools, good roads and bridges, and access to healthcare throughout the state.
These are the pillars of our communities. Without them our communities will erode. Over the past several years, we’ve seen these pillars challenged by leaders who seem to believe that decline is inevitable and that our economy will somehow thrive if we starve our public sector.
We need to recognize that what makes Kansas great is the willingness of our people to invest in the state they love.
Decline isn’t inevitable. Yes, our state is changing. For over a century, we’ve seen people migrate from rural Kansas to many of our cities and suburbs. Many of the individuals leading our businesses, schools, and critical institutions were taught the value of hard work and service to others on the farms and in the small businesses of rural Kansas. Not only do they feed the world, but rural Kansans fuel our whole economy. The success of rural Kansas is vital to the future of the entire state.
If we want to build a state where our kids have jobs and opportunities, we need to invest in the future. We need to recognize that what makes Kansas great is the willingness of our people to invest in the state they love. With a real strategy to protect these pillars of our community, coupled with the work ethic and dedication of Kansas’ citizens, we can make Kansas a place where our children and grandchildren want to build their futures.
